The purpose of the ERG’s is to help build awareness and understanding about Inclusion & Diversity throughout the organisation. This is done by hosting, leading or developing programmes and activities that raise awareness and/or build essential business skills to manage differences.
Each ERG has a Steering Group and some have an executive sponsor. The Steering Group is made up of several standard roles, such as Treasurer, Secretary, Communication Lead, and so on. Any employee can volunteer to take on one of these roles and become a member of the Steering Group. The Chair is usually a Senior Manager (A or B) and if there is an Executive Sponsor, it is held by someone who sits on one of National Grid’s Executive Committees.
