Construction of the Hinkley Point C Connection moved a step closer last Friday as we awarded the first in a series of contracts to build the new major infrastructure.
ABB was awarded the contract for Shurton substation, which will be the connection point from EDF’s new Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset to our electricity network. Construction on the substation is scheduled to get underway in 2019.
Sue Adam, Head of Hinkley and Major Infrastructure Development, said: “This is a significant project for National Grid. Connecting this new low carbon source of energy into our network will help meet the country’s increasing demand for sustainable energy.
“We are delighted to award the contract to build the new substation to ABB which will be a vital link between the new Hinkley Point C power station and the electricity network. We look forward to continuing our work with the customer, stakeholders and communities as we enter the next exciting phase of the project.”
