We added two new trophies to our awards cabinet at last week’s School Leaver Awards 2018.
At a glittering awards ceremony in London, the HR team took home the ‘Top Employer – Energy and Utilities’ and ‘Best Advanced Apprenticeship’ awards, after being nominated for eight awards in total.
AllAboutSchoolLeavers celebrates the Top 100 employers for young people and we came fifth overall this year. The awards are based on real-life experiences of apprentices and school leavers; celebrating not only the employers who offer the UK’s best apprenticeships, but recognising training and career progression as well as the best employers in their particular industries.
Fern Donoghue, Brand Specialist, UK HR, was at the event and said: “It was a fantastic night in a totally magical venue. We were up against some of the best employers – such as BP, Royal Mail, CapGemini and PWC – across the categories, so it was really exciting to walk away with two awards.
“The great thing about the School Leaver Awards is that the entrants don’t put themselves forward for the awards – it’s the school leavers themselves that nominate companies and vote.
“We know National Grid is a great employer and to have it validated externally by the type of new talent we are trying to attract makes us extremely proud.
“This isn’t the first time one of our apprenticeship schemes has won an award. Every year our schemes attract applications from hundreds of high-calibre candidates, who take part in our industry-leading schemes across both our gas and electricity businesses, and now into National Grid Ventures too.
“We have just sent offers out for next year’s scheme and these awards show the quality of what’s to come for those candidates and many more in the future.”
