A message from John Pettigrew, CEO
I am delighted to share that on 28 December, one of our own was recognised in the UK’s 2019 New Year’s Honours List.
In recognition of her previous role as Director of the UK System Operator, Cordi O’Hara has been awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire), for services to the UK Energy Industry.
The New Year’s Honours list recognises distinguished achievements and services of people across the United Kingdom; and the awards are presented by Queen Elizabeth II or another senior member of the royal family. This award recognises the essential work of the entire UK System Operator team.
Two years ago, the UK Government, National Grid and regulator Ofgem announced there would, in the future, be greater independence for our UK system operator function. Under Cordi’s leadership, the concept of a new, legally separate company within the National Grid Group was accepted and will come into full effect this April 2019.
The National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) will allow us to continue to meet future challenges of onshore competition, different market entrants and technologies on behalf of the Government; but without any perceived conflicts of interest with regards to our UK Transmission or non-regulated businesses.
Cordi is currently Chief Operating Officer Gas in our US business. She will be invited to Buckingham Palace to receive her official medal in early 2019.
Please join me in congratulating Cordi for this wonderful recognition.
