In recognition of the number of UK employees who participate in the Pennies from Heaven scheme, we recently received a Pennies from Heaven Gold Award.
National Grid was among a handful of employers to receive the award. With over 20% of you donating your spare pennies to charity each month, since the scheme began you have helped raise over £15,000 for our nominated charities – which has made a significant difference to them.
The scheme allows employees to donate their surplus pennies from their salary each month to our charity partner, through Flexible Benefits. In previous years, Macmillan Cancer Support and Alzheimer’s Society have benefitted from employee pennies. This year City Year UK, our new charity of the year partner, will receive these pennies; helping to contribute towards our £150k fundraising target.
On hearing the news, Group Citizenship Manager Michelle Lester said: “Employees at National Grid are extremely charitable – they fundraise and donate money regularly to many worthy causes every year.
“The Pennies from Heaven scheme is so simple. It allows employees to make regular donations of their surplus pennies each month, to support one of our charity partners without feeling any financial impact from their contribution. There is no doubt that ‘small change’ is helping to make a big change to those charities we support.”
A special thanks to all our employees that donate their pennies on a regular basis in support of one of National Grid’s charity partner’s.
From 1 April, we will be donating all pennies donated through the scheme to City Year UK. If you would like to sign up, please refer to the recent At a Glance announcement to find out how, or contact the Flexible Benefits team by emailing .box.UKReward for more details.
Since the scheme began, employers who support the Pennies from Heaven scheme have collectively contributed a staggering 470,000,000 pennies to many UK-based charities.
