Collaborative efforts have delivered an upgrade of the fire and gas protection system at our Huntingdon compressor station below budget and without incidents.
The work was part of a joint effort between Capital Delivery and the Gas Transmission Owner (GTO) business to upgrade our compressor stations, bringing them in line with new emission regulations.
By working together with the main works contractor Technica, the system that suppresses against fire and the build-up of combustible gases at Huntingdon was successfully upgraded.
In just 12 months, the team moved from project scope to full delivery and the compressor was back in operation in September. Capital Delivery, GTO Operations and Technica worked as one team to exceed the project’s objectives, delivering safely, ahead of schedule and within budget.
Paul Emmett, Senior Project Manager, Gas Construction, said: “The Huntingdon fire and gas project is a fantastic example of how Capital Delivery and GTO, working closely together with support from an external contractor, deliver projects safely and right first time.
“We delivered the project in just 12 months from start to finish, returning the station over a month ahead of the outage end-date. Not only that, we came in below budget and, most importantly, without incident during the >5000 construction man-hours.
“The team should be immensely proud of what was achieved under challenging constraints.”
Sean Johnston, Operations Representative – East, GTO, added: “We had to overcome some difficulties during the main works, not least returning the compressor station to service sooner so that vibration flow trials could be carried out.
“Two things have been critical to overcoming this. First, having a single delivery unit coordinate the work simplified the process greatly. Second, having a close working relationship between the site team and the main works contractor during the commissioning phase led to a seamless handover of the equipment.”
Great effort from the Project Team, Site Ops and Technica! Well done.
Congratulations to all project team members.
