Our Training Centre in Eakring has hosted a VIP visit by the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP, the newly appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer, together with Chief Whip and local MP Mark Spencer.
Nicola Shaw, Executive Director, UK, and John Tyler, Head of UK Academy, were proud to show the VIPs around National Grid’s training facilities, where they met some of our apprentices and saw the onsite training pylon and substation.
The Chancellor was interested to hear about the diverse programme of over 800 training courses that Eakring provides; particularly our Apprenticeship scheme, which is rated as one of the best in the country.
The visit was a great opportunity for Nicola to discuss the work we are doing toward achieving our 2050 net zero ambition, as well as highlighting our ‘The Job That Can’t Wait’ recruitment campaign. As well as a private meeting between Nicola and the Chancellor, several national TV channels also attended the event.
Commenting on the visit, Nicola said: “Eakring is a one-of-a kind, world-class training centre, offering an unrivalled development experience. It’s fantastic to see this being recognised and an honour to showcase it to government leaders.
“Our business has so much to offer new starters. Colleagues joining us over the next five years will become part of the ‘Net Zero Workforce’, helping us achieve our ambition of creating a cleaner, greener environment by 2050.”
This is the second VIP visit the Eakring team have hosted in the last few months. In June, they were also visited by Her Majesty’s Ofsted Chief Inspector (HMCI), Amanda Spielman, to mark the National Learning and Development Centre being awarded its third consecutive ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted.
